Budget, Permitting, and Planning

 

I am doing as much of the work for this project myself.  I made the best design I could by reading up on solar greenhouses and general construction technique.  Then I made it up nice using Autocad and went down to City Hall for a building permit.  The permitting staff challenged me on some of the engineering, but I was prepared with all the calculations for snow and wind load and received the permit without too much trouble.  Later I went back for a plumbing permit so I could run the floor drain.  This was trickier, the plumbing people are not so happy to let amateurs do plumbing work.  I had to sign (and notarize) a statement saying that I owned the house and have lived there "peaceably" for 4 years.  Wish I had a copy, it was kind of an amusing statement.  But the plumbing inspector has been very friendly and helpful during the inspections, this is going quite well.  You just need to read up on plumbing principals and do good work.

Cost figures are below, the first table is receipt-by-receipt accounting of my spending.  Second table shows my orginal budget I drew up before doing any work.  I am elated at the costs so far!
