Hurricane Ike Hits Baracoa, Cuba
September 8, 2008

September 8, 2008

Dear friends,

Once again, here in Saint Augustine we’ve been spared. But Hurricane Ike roared into Baracoa early today!

Cuba had raised its hurricane alert level to maximum. 900,000 people were evacuated. But damage was extensive.

All of you who have been to Baracoa with the Friendship Association will recognize the buildings in these photos – perhaps even some of the people . . .

The Friendship Association is one of the few organizations that continues to have a license from the State Department to ship humanitarian aid to Cuba.

We have a partial container scheduled for delivery to Baracoa in November. Help us fill it!

Please earmark a check “Hurricane Relief” and send it to us so that we can help mitigate some of the loss our brothers and sisters have suffered..

The St. Augustine-Baracoa Friendship Association has been certified by the IRS as a non-profit organization under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Your donation is fully tax deductible. Written acknowledgements will be issued for all contributions.

Either make your check or money order payable to "St. Augustine-Baracoa Friendship Association", and mail it to:
